Today, Ghost Express observes Human Trafficking Awareness Day and the importance of raising awareness about often hidden crime.

Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed every year in the United States on the 11th of January, but is also observed on the 30th of July in other locations around the world.

Human Trafficking is a hidden crime that often goes unnoticed unless subtle indicators are spotted. These are some common signs that a person may be being trafficked:

  • Do they look fearful or nervous in the presence of authority figures?,
  • Do they live in conditions that appear in poor condition or are overcrowded?
  • Do they appear to have control over their own finances or is controlled by another person?
  • Are they always accompanied by someone else when travelling?

There are many other indicators, a number of which can be found here.

Today, we stand with those that have survived and escaped from such abuses and commit to learning about the signs of human trafficking, educating others on how to recognise these signs and reporting anything suspicious we see to the relevant authorities.

While the signs are not always obvious, you can make a difference by staying vigilant and being aware of your surroundings and looking for that one little tell, that something that doesn't look quite right, that thing that didn't seemed a little bit odd to you.

If you'd like to show your awareness for this day, perhaps consider changing your truck livery and add some blue to the paint job. A common colour associated with this day is #009EDB (hex)

For those of you in the US, you can make a report by calling 1-888-373-7888 (National Human Trafficking Hotline) or by contacting your local law enforcement.

Remember - A reasonable suspicious is enough to act on. You don't need definitive proof in order to report something to the authorities. That little thing you saw that didn't look right could be the one thing that saves someone from further harm, or something much worse.
