Anyone who has seen an 18-wheel vehicle painted in zombie apocalypse colours knows that this is no joke.

Tuned engines, improved brakes and modified suspension allow heavier loads to be transported faster and... with greater panache. But with all this glitz and power, it's impossible not to notice a certain paradox: the tuning is so extreme that often the car itself becomes the star, and the driver – almost an extra.

And this is where the magic of the American spirit of freedom comes in: the road, the truck and the unlimited possibilities of tuning are a combination that does not exist on this scale anywhere else. It's a bit like a car Woodstock – the exhaust roars, the chrome shines, and the driver feels like the king of the motorway.

But isn't that what the American approach to motoring is all about? American truck tuning is more than just a hobby. It's a manifesto of style, passion and freedom on wheels. And although European drivers sometimes see it as excessive, it's hard to deny Americans their courage to experiment – even when it comes to something as ordinary as a truck.
