You've read the Website Reporting Guidelines & FAQ and now you are wondering how you can record your game play to make website reports. If you haven't already read the Website Reporting Guidelines & FAQ, we recommend that you do so to learn the rules around using our web report system.

In this article, we cover how you can use Steam Gameplay Recorder to record in-game, to collect your report evidence.

Steam Gameplay Recorder

Steam has a built in game recording function which allows you to either record whole game play sessions or to clip a predefined time in the past. This article will guide you through setting Steam up ready to clip using a hotkey.

  1. Open Steam and click Steam in the top left and go to Settings.
    SteamMenu

  2. Go to the Game Recording menu item.

  3. Set Recording Mode to Record in Background.

  4. Set Save the last x second of gameplay as a clip to 120 seconds. Steam defaults this setting to 30 seconds. Set shortcut to a key that suits you by clicking the box to the right of the setting we just setup. In our case we used Key pad /.

  5. You can setup Game-Specific settings if you don't want Steam to record in the background for all games. For example, we have American Truck Simulator setup in our example. You can also set your Recordings Folder here to a location that suits you.

  6. You may now load the game. When you want to clip, use the hotkey you set in step 4. If you have Steam notifications enabled, it will notify you when a clip has been created as below.

  7. When you leave your game, Steam will show you a Post-game summary which will allow you to access your clips.
